USM Eliminates the Trash of over 40,000 People

USM, the facilities management business unit of Transfield Services Americas, recently reported on the net effect of one of their green programs to decrease waste while contributing to fuel savings.
While providing services at their clients' locations, USM and their contractors worked in conjunction with Diversey, a major cleaning product producer, to utilize concentrated products in Envirobox™ packaging. Envirobox™ is a breakthrough for packaging that provides a green alternative to the standard cardboard box. By providing a stronger, single wall box, replacing the wasteful double wall, it not only helps to save trees but reduces the amount of cardboard waste sent to landfills, significantly reducing the environmental impact.
For USM, over the course of a year, use of these products has led to a reduction of 188,400 lbs of cardboard and plastic packaging. That’s equivalent to the daily waste of 40,700 people. Further to these savings, less packaging means that fuel costs were reduced due to lighter delivery vehicles and the need for fewer deliveries. In all 6,110 gallons of fuel were saved, eliminating 863,000 lbs of green house gas emissions which would be the same as taking 72 cars off the road.
Relationships with suppliers like Diversey allow USM to equip itself as a green service provider of choice. This way forward not only benefits our customers who are environmentally conscious and seeking greener alternatives from their service providers, but also works towards protecting our communities for future generations to enjoy.
